[edit] Terms to be included
(Once these terms are defined, and included on their own page, they can be removed from this list)
SKU - jargon - acronym for Stock Keeping Unit. example: Company of Heroes is only available on the PC, no other SKUs are available. (from kortcomponent on IGJA site)
splitscreen - or should it be split-screen or perhaps split screen? (from kortcomponent on IGJA site)
touchscreen or touch-screen? KyleOrl 21:44, 26 July 2007 (UTC)

'Grand Theft Auto IV - add to notable games. Not Grand Theft Auto 4 or GTA 4
[edit] Terms under consideration
(These terms are still being debated. Once the term is determined as needed in the guide, it should be moved to the Terms to be included above)
- Dwarf/Dwarves (capitalized?)
- Elf/Elves (capitalized?)
- Other fantasy races?
- Should be lumped into one entry, I'd say. KyleOrl 15:47, 26 July 2007 (UTC)
- loot drop: MMO jargon referring to valuable in game items that appear once an enemy is killed. the assumption is that the enemy, usually an NPC (always?) was carrying the treasure, or loot, and dropped it once they were killed.
- Add a section on modifiers for different types of gamers? war gamer, casual gamer, etc.
- Maybe an addendum to the gamer entry ... I don't think each type needs its own entry. KyleOrl 15:47, 26 July 2007 (UTC)
- Add to notable game EverQuest, EverQuest II, EQ and EQ2 as variants.
- Foil: A shimmering effect added to both digital and paper TCG cards. This usually increases their collectability.
- Starter pack: A set of TCG cards complete enough to allow the player to start playing the game.
- Boster/booster pack: Packages of cards purchased and filled with a random collection of cards.
- Add CCG as primary listing, redirected to Collectable Trading Card Game (just so it sits as an entry in the main guide.
- Releated, shouldn't we add all abbreviations as top-level terms so that it makes the printed guide easier to read?
- TCG: Trading card game. Synonym for CCG?
- This isn't the CCG style guide. How many of these terms do we really need? KyleOrl 15:47, 26 July 2007 (UTC)
- CCGs have gone online. If you talk to the companies, they think the future of their business is as videogames. So, yes, I think we need to include at least the basic stuff David 21:44, 3 August 2007 (UTC)
- Trade off/tradeoff/trade-off: Which do you use?
- The AP guide says trade off is the noun and trade-off is the adjective. This doesn't need to go in a VG style guide. KyleOrl 15:47, 26 July 2007 (UTC)
- Starbase, star-base or star base? Does it change if we're talking about Star Trek/Wars?
- The beehive that is MMO abbreviations. WoW, WOW, CoH, CoV, DoaC, GW, L2...
- Game abbreviations are covered in the game names entry. Some of these might make Notable Games though. KyleOrl 15:47, 26 July 2007 (UTC)
- tutorial: An educational portion of a game, usually interactive and frequently with constraints the force the player to practice specific controller input patterns necessary to play the game.
- Not a bad idea. KyleOrl 15:47, 26 July 2007 (UTC)
- z-fight: jargon, A flickering effect caused by more than one nearly co-planar geometries alternating in draw order.
- I have never heard this term, ever. Is it really common enough for inclusion? KyleOrl 15:47, 26 July 2007 (UTC)
- mob/mobs: Groups of AI enemies in an MMO. David 20:13, 16 August 2007 (UTC)
- side-scrolling (side scrolling?) Is this anadjective, a genre? Just need some clarification. David 04:20, 12 September 2007 (UTC)
- Ludology: the study of videogames
- Fixing this, lugology doesn't exist... it's ludology :) --Brilliam 18:08, 20 December 2007 (UTC)
- balance/game balance/balancing David 16:47, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
- emergent gameplay: In cases where the players start to use the game to play in a manner not anticipated or deisgned by the game's creator, the play is considered emergent gameplay. David 16:47, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
- replayability -- currently listed under replay. But perhaps an entry all on its own? Or is this just jargon?
